As I mentioned earlier, I'm not a fan of the BL/Yaoi genre. Most follow the same pattern. But for you guys, I'm able to read something to tell you about it and rate it. Today I reached for another title again, this time a bigger one. Why this one? Because I liked the artwork. I read the first 10 episodes and was curious to see what would happen next. So I began to read. The artwork was just what encouraged me to start reading further. Let's not kid ourselves, the artwork is sometimes very important to make a good first impression, but the artwork does not mean that the rest of the story can be good.
Rabbit is basically I could say a kid. He's an adult but he looks like a kid and sometimes he behaves a bit like one. However, there are reasons for this. Experienced with an unpleasant lifestyle, he has a right to be broken. Sharpe is a secret agent, an assassin who pretends to be a teacher. Sharpe is given a mission to kill former agent Warren. He ends up in a nightclub where he gets Rabbit on a special menu. The man encourages the boy to work with him. The beginning is very tentative, as Rabbit as a broken child is sometimes too obvious to me that something is wrong. Warren also quickly becomes suspicious of Rabbit's new client. I have read the whole season and it is very good.
Rabbit (AJ), an adorable baby. Cute and very broken. Not that I like it, I prefer healthy relationships and stronger character development, but it's only the first season. I'll probably still see more with the second season. However, it is well shown how messed up the boy is in his head, what he struggles with and how much he hates what he does. It's presented very well. I'm also more interested in his relationship with his family, I hope they develop that and not abandon it.
Warran is quite a bastard. I like his design and firmness. I can't say much more about him as the plot around him continues to develop, but man is he going to cause problems.
Sharpe is the type of guy I like. Concrete and straight to the point.
The fellow 'housemates' are charming and behave like typical gossips. You can see that they like the main character. Well portrayed. Same with the main bald bodyguard.
Awesome. Nothing to add. Here they have my fullest respect.
It is clear, we know who is who, we understand their relationships, their place in the comic. There are no further uncertainties so far. The only thing I would like to see more of is Rabbit's relationship with his family. And I sincerely hope that they get along.
I think it was a reunion after years of Rabbit and Sharpe. A student sees his disliked teacher years later. That was a good one. And the moment when Rabbit bugged Warren in his office. That's the kind of boy I'd like to see all the time, but it's clear that through life experiences... we might not expect it so soon.
Yes, this review will describe my concerns. The comic is great. Really great. However, my concern is that it could be a typical BL from this point on. I fear season 2. The characters kissed at the end of a season 1. As for me, to make it really good, Shape should reject the boy, reflect on what happened, show how hard it is for him to embrace his feelings towards the boy. Rabbit is broken, he should be experiencing that he's been rejected for a while. I'm not saying the characters shouldn't be with each other. Honestly? Totally they don't match up. Not at all. I don't even feel the chemistry between them. The employee-boss relationship without much applause. Seriously. But I feel that because Rabbit is small, fragile and broken... and Sharpe a grown man, big (muscular), arranged and dangerous.... This is going to be a typical BL which I find hard to read. But I'm judging the first season here, not my speculation for you to take into account. I feel that it will end with a big kidnapping of the boy and the muscle man will rescue him like a knight on a white horse. I hope, I sincerely hope, that I'm wrong and their romance doesn't work out, Rabbit returns to his parents and gets himself together and a real friendship remains between Rabbit and Sharpe. They just don't fit together.
